UPM Intern Goes From Campus to Capitol Hill

When Jamie Binegar joined the Campus Choir at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, she had no idea how far it would take her.  The Christian-based choir leads music-driven worship experiences and travels extensively throughout North America, Europe and Asia, and are scheduled to tour Indonesia and China this summer.  One of the highlights of their tour to date was this week’s performance at President Obama’s inauguration in Washington DC.

The public ceremony marking this occasion was held at the United States Capitol Building and conveyed the theme “Faith in America’s Future“.  As a member of the choir, Jamie’s involvement allowed her to experience this theme first hand.

“I was extremely honored to be chosen as part of the choir who sang at the Inauguration.”  She remarked,  “We had the opportunity to share and sing about our beliefs to millions of people. No matter what your ideals or who you voted for, Americans want to see their country heal and thrive. We were able to show our support of that vision.”

The choir was made up of students from seven different choral groups at Lee University.  They were chosen by their respective directors and the Dean of the School of Music.  U. S. Senator Lamar Alexander of Tennessee invited the choral group to sing at the prestigious event on behalf of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.
