Still Hunting with Roger Haire

United Performance Metals Plant Manager, Roger Haire, has enjoyed the sport of hunting since he was 14 years old. “Hunting takes me away from my everyday lifestyle.” He affectionately states “It’s a unique opportunity to gain an understanding of wildlife personalities.”

With more than a few trails under his belt, Roger reminisces about his most recent trip; a western-style hunt in November which involved riding horses in the Big Horn Mountain Region of Wyoming. Despite the bitter evening temperatures “I stayed in a wall tent, roughing it with Mother Nature.” It was in Unit 45 that he connected with an elk; a satisfying end to his journey.

A boyhood friend first peaked Roger’s interest in hunting. Today he enjoys both bow and rifle expeditions across the country. Through Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Montana, New Mexico, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wyoming, Roger has enjoyed taking in the unique beauty of what each state has to offer.

Roger’s family is very supportive of this pastime. His son Dustin, age 20, plans to join his father next winter as the two journey to Big Sky Country, searching for mule deer along the Powder River that runs between Montana and Wyoming.

When asked what his ideal trip would be, Roger answered “Alaska!” The moose, caribou and bears in the region had better be ready for him!
