Spotlight on Graduating Seniors

We’re celebrating the college graduation of Erika Leigh Grathwohl form the University of Alabama!  Erika received a Bachelor of Education with Honors from the university in December.  Erika is the daughter of Shannon Grathwohl, Account Manager for United Performance Metals.

Erika spent the last three years involved in the program America Reads* America Counts, which gives college students the opportunity to gain work experience while improving the reading and mathematics levels of youngsters in grades kindergarten through third grade. Erika was nominated Tutor of the Year three years running!  She also spent time working with kids as a camp counselor for the Tuscaloosa Parks Department.

Erika wasted no time putting that practice to good use and is now a full time kindergarten teacher at Rock Quarry Elementary School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

From Ohio to Alabama

Prior to moving down south, Erika was an avid soccer player for Fairfield High School in Ohio.  She was a four year varsity player, senior captain, MVP, and earned the team leadership award.  She also played soccer for the Ohio Elite Club team.

When asked to name her favorite things about Alabama, now that she’s a full-time resident, Erika named Dreamland Bar-B-Que as a southern delicacy she can’t live without.  Far and away, the best part of her life in the Yellowhammer state is Bama football!  Erika enjoys reminding her friends in Ohio that her school won the national football championship three of her four years as a student.  Roll Tide!
