317LM Stainless Steel Plate - UNS S31725 (Low Carbon, High Molybdenum)
317LM is a low carbon, high molybdenum austenitic stainless steel with a higher nickel content than 317L. The same high resistance to phosphoric and sulfuric acid compounds applies, with good fabricability and mechanical properties.
Our 317LM plate is ideal for cutting and machining. When machining 317LM, low speed and constant feeds can be used to reduce work hardening. Chip breakers may be useful as the high ductility of this grade can form long chips around cutting tools. Forming requires a significantly higher force than standard stainless steel grades, and it must be cut through the entire thickness. Welding may be done through conventional methods, as the low carbon content of this grade allows it to maintain corrosion resistance and reduce stress corrosion cracking. 317L can be used as filler material when required.
317LM stainless steel cannot be hardened by typical heat treatments and must be cold worked to harden and strengthen.
